Stories Inspired, Creativity Empowered.
Happie Literacy Works, LLC is a social enterprise with a three-module approach to programming — Cultivate, Plant, Grow. Our suite of services consists of K-12 creative literacy programming, a culturally responsible publishing house, and an incentivizing nonprofit initiative.
Our Mission
Happie Literacy Works exists to uplift underserved communities through creative literacy—the fusion of education, storytelling, and imagination. We champion minority indie writers by amplifying their voices, while advancing equitable access to literacy for students of all backgrounds. By breaking barriers and promoting diverse narratives, HLW ensures every learner and creator has the tools to read, write, and reimagine their world.
Our Vision
We envision a world where creative literacy is a recognized tool of empowerment, where minority voices in literature are amplified, and where students from every socioeconomic background have access to transformative opportunities. HLW imagines a future where creativity, knowledge, and community drive both personal growth and collective change.
Our Values
At HLW, C2E2I is our foundation—creativity fuels innovation, community builds belonging, empowerment unlocks potential, equity ensures access, and inclusion uplifts every voice.
Our Why
Literacy is fundamental. Yet, on average, 45 million Americans are unable to read beyond a fifth grade level.
Literacy is liberation. Yet, poverty, among other social dispositions, greatly impacts a student’s success in the classroom and beyond.
Literacy is opportunity. Yet, low levels of literacy costs the U.S. up to $2.2 trillion per year.
So, why us?
As a creative addition to and extension of the classroom, Happie Literacy Works offers a new approach to tackling literacy issues by embracing “creative literacy,” or the ability to use creative thinking and expression, alongside reading and writing skills, to learn and solve problems. It involves engaging with various forms of art and media to enhance understanding and communication, fostering holistic learning and deeper knowledge retention.
First, we identify what engages students. Second, we challenge them to step out of their comfort zone by introducing fun and incentivized ways to enhance their reading and writing skills. Third, we introduce them to the most significant piece to the puzzle—opportunity.
Participants of Happie Literacy Works programming won’t just learn—they will produce. Moreover, authors that choose to publish through us will not just produce, they will learn and grow. We don’t just produce content—we develop creators.
Our “student to professional” pipeline will not only prepare our core learners and authors to use their literacy and creative skills in the real world, but it will jumpstart that process by exposing them to ways they can use their reading and writing skills beyond the classroom.
